Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection

HW-SC in Syracuse

Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection helps youth stay in school, earn their high school diplomas and prepare for college or employment. In Syracuse, eligible students enter the program in grades 7 through 9, and work with school-based Youth Advocates who provide 360-degree support. Our YAs help students develop good habits, acquire social skills, and achieve their potential to become contributing, responsible young people at home, in school and at work.

Approximately 1,260 Syracuse students are currently participating in HW-SC high schools and middle schools. These students are preparing for successful futures:

  • In 2020, 93% of Syracuse students who stayed with HW-SC throughout high school received their diplomas on time, and 95% were promoted to the next grade level.
  • The on-time graduation rate jumped to 99% among participating Syracuse students who were employed with our job partners. HW-SC works!
