RIT Student Shines for United Way, Hillside

Each year, the United Way of Greater Rochester helps more than 6,000 students by supporting afterschool, summer and mentoring programs. One of the programs supported by the United Way is the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection. Devren Purdie is one young man who can testify to the program’s success. Purdie is a double major at RIT and working 40 hours a week, so he doesn’t get many quiet moments. At 20 years old, he has already had ten jobs. HCC Executive Named to Commission on Children’s Behavioral Health

Barb Conradt, Executive Director HCC Western and Greater Monroe Region Community Based Services, has been named to participate in the Finger Lakes Region effort sponsored by the Greater Rochester Health Foundation (GRHF) to identify problems with providing services to youth with mental health issues. Former Rochester Mayor, Tom Richards, and Rochester Business Alliance leader Sandy Parker will lead the commission which is funded by a $300,000 grant by the GRHF.  Counties from Orleans to Seneca are included in the project.  Barb will work alongside 28 other members of the commission with the goal of developing a “blueprint for change” to…

President of Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection to Lead Rochester Anti-Poverty Initiative Work Group Augie Melendez, President HW-SC, has been selected to co-lead the Jobs/Workforce Development work group formed within the Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative.
