Pittsford, NY Boy Scout Troop 336 delivered more than 3,000 books to the Andrews-Trahey School at Hillside Children’s Centers Monroe Avenue campus on July 22. The books were collected from the Pittsford School District as part of a book drive organized by Scott Hanrahan, a 16-year-old student who is working to become an Eagle Scout. Scott set a goal to collect 1,000 books but, thanks to a lot of hard work, the scouts collected 3,700 books.

When Scott delivered the books to Hillside Children’s Center, he was presented with thank you notes from several Hillside youth, as well as some gifts from the school staff. The donated books will be split between the Andrews-Trahey library and the Early Childhood Center library at Crestwood Children’s Center.

Scott credits his fellow scouts for this tremendous accomplishment. “It was really an amazing thing to see everyone working together,” he said. “You know, I was just the leadership. The scouts did most of the work.”

“We are so grateful to Scott and all the scouts in Troop 336,” says Hillside Volunteer Coordinator Heather VanDyne. “It’s a wonderful thing to see teens helping their peers.”
