Students from Our Lady of Mercy and Schroeder High School staged a carnival for 70 Crestwood youth in May. A group of about 20 students began meeting in early spring to plan the event with a theme of Under the Sea. Crestwood youth enjoyed a variety of games and activities during the 90-minute event.
“The annual Crestwood Carnival is one of the few opportunities we have for high school students to be involved with our kids,” says Volunteer Coordinator Heather VanDyne. “It’s great for the Crestwood youth because the activities help them develop teamwork skills and they love interacting with the high school students.”
Heather hopes to involve more high school boys in next year’s Carnival. “The boys at Crestwood really enjoy having high school guys to talk to,” she says. “I hope that high school guidance counselors and community initiative coordinators will recommend the carnival to their male and female students.”
