2007 Accomplishments

Research

  • The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation—a foundation dedicated to helping organizations across the country help young people to realize their potential—granted $1 million to Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection as part of a four-year, $30.9 million business plan to double the number of youth served by HW-SC in Rochester, Syracuse and beyond. Other foundations, businesses and individuals have seen HW-SC’s success in improving graduation rates in these cities and contributed an additional $611,000 to support HW-SC.

Innovation

  • Donors with a true sense of vision provided over $248,000 to enhance Crestwood Children’s Foundation’s endowment. Included in this amount are the proceeds from an innovative donation of property owned by several longtime Crestwood supporters.

  • People throughout the community have a vision for the good they hope to achieve by holding fund raising events on behalf of Hillside’s affiliates. This year, 48 organizations, groups, and individuals raised almost $79,000 to support Crestwood Children’s Center, Hillside Children’s Center, and Hillside Special Santas.

  • Danny and Stency Wegman helped realize the vision for over 160 youth in Rochester by hosting the most successful Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection gala yet, raising over $202,000 that, when matched on a 2-to-1 basis with New York State funding through Monroe County, ensures these youth get the services they need to stay in school and graduate with skills that will prepare them for post-secondary education and work.

Growth

  • 1,950 donors helped to realize the needs of children and families served daily throughout Hillside Family of Agencies by contributing $427,000 through Hillside’s annual appeals.

  • With an eye to the future, donors who believe in the value of parenting education and support for families with very young children provided over $86,000 to support Family Resource Centers of Crestwood Children’s Center.

  • 1,740 individuals and businesses donated approximately 18,000 gifts and gift cards worth a total of over $236,000 through Hillside Special Santas to help 4,037 children and their families realize their holiday dreams.

  • Participants in the Hillside Believe in Kids Golf Classic achieved the most successful tournament yet, raising nearly $110,000 for Crestwood Children’s Center and Hillside Children’s Center. Money raised through this and other special events supports the delivery of services to children throughout Hillside.

  • Pinnacle Society, Hillside Family of Agencies’ planned giving society, has reached membership of 64 individuals—the most yet—including 8 new members this year who have indicated to us that they have included one of our affiliates in their estate plans.

2006 Accomplishments

  • Over $480,000 was donated for capital purposes throughout Hillside Family of Agencies.

  • The future of 1200 7th to 12th graders in the city of Rochester - more than ever before- will be positively altered with the aid of nearly $293,000 raised for Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection through the annual gala hosted by Danny and Stency  Wegman and the thoughtful support of dozens of individuals and companies honoring the legacy of Robert Wegman.

  • Over $68,000 was raised for Crestwood Children's Center and Hillside Children's Center through events hosted by organization, businesses, and individuals, including over $11,000 through WPXY's High School Challenge, a competition among area high schools to collect pennies to support Hillside Special Santas.

  • Over 2800 individuals helped to create tomorrow's stories for the children and families served by Hillside's affiliates by supporting annual appeals and participating in special events hosted by the Foundations. Proving that that every gift makes a difference to what Hillside can accomplish, these believers provided over $603,000 to support, among other things, the programs of Adoption Resource Network at Hillside Children's Center, sending our children to Hillside's Camp Possibilities, and addressing short-term basic emergency needs to help keep children and families together.

  • Donors often find a particular story compelling- they respond to the need children have to express themselves through artistic pursuits, or demonstrate their abilities and build confidence through athletic activities, or to rewrite their own stories by participating in community service and youth court programs. These stories were among the many that compelled individuals and foundations to make grants totaling almost $335,000 to support specific projects and programs throughout Hillside.

  • 1390 donors of items ranging from gently used toys and books, to handmade mittens, quilts, and throws, to school supplies and holiday gifts, to priceless auction items, believed in the power of a gift-in-kind to change the future path for our children and families

  • In addition to the funds raised by and reported through the Foundations, our efforts were responsible for an additional $465,000 of philanthropic support received directly by Hillside affiliates.

2005 Accomplishments

  • More than 20 private foundation grants providing over$250,000 in support were received for projects throughout Hillside’s affiliates.

  • 66 members of Pinnacle Society have provided for a Hillside affiliate through their estate plans.

  • With a record 22 event sponsors, the Believe in Kids Golf Classic raised over $100,000 for the first time ever for the children and families of Crestwood Children’s Center and Hillside Children’s Center.

  • Over 2,400 donations totaled more than $453,000 in annual support.

  • Two new events, A Hillside Night at Geva and the Buffalo Bills Camp Picnic at St. John Fisher College, raised more than $45,000 for Hillside Children’s Center and Crestwood Children’s Center.

  • Members of the community have rallied to respond to an unprecedented matching opportunity with Monroe County and New York State, providing over $85,000 in new support for Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection.

  • Over $32,000 was donated to Crestwood Children’s Center and Hillside Children’s Center through third-party events—fundraising activities conducted on our behalf by groups, organizations, and others in the community.

  • Over 500 people attended special events.

  • Over 1,500 community members in Rochester and Syracuse supported Hillside Special Santas with donations of gifts and cash for the children and families served by Hillside Family of Agencies.

  • 275 volunteers offered their services for special events including Special Santas.

  • For the first time, Onondaga County residents are supporting the work of Hillside Children’s Center through the United Way of Central New York, joining Monroe County residents, who through the United Way of Greater Rochester continue to provide funding to Hillside affiliates.

2003 Accomplishments 

  • The Friends of Children Appeal raised over $38,000 to support programs and services for the children and families of Crestwood Children’s Center.

  • Crestwood's first ever Spring Appeal raised over $22,000 to support summer activities and field trips for 150 children in Day Treatment and Residential Programs.

  • Crestwood Children’s Center’s Golf Tournament raised $17,220, and the Harley Dice Run organized on Crestwood’s behalf raised $2,869.

  • The Early Childhood Center Day Treatment Program roof replacement is complete thanks to the generosity of local individuals, foundations and corporations.

  • Gifts to the Making Spirits Bright holiday toy drive increased 78% over the previous year.

2002 Significant Accomplishments

  • In its first year of a three-year campaign, the Make More Dreams Come True Campaign raised nearly $110,000 toward the rehabilitation of Crestwood Children's Center's Early Childhood Center at its Scottsville Road Campus. This program provides day treatment services to pre-school and primary school age children.

  • The 2002 Crestwood Golf Classic hosted by former Buffalo Bill Steve Tasker raised $27,000 in support of the children and families of Crestwood Children's Center. Before the tournament, held in May at Cobblestone Creek Country Club, Tasker toured Crestwood's residential and day treatment programs and visited with the children.

  • The Holiday Note Card Sale, featuring designs from the children of Crestwood Children's Center, kicked off 2001's holiday season and the Making Spirits Bright campaign. Three hundred new donors contributed toys and clothing to help make the season brighter for Crestwood's children.

  • Todd Trust and Freedom Forum grant dollars combined to provide the necessary funds to rehabilitate three bathrooms at Crestwood's Allen P. Mills House. This group home is the therapeutic living environment for eight teenage boys transitioning to home settings.

  • The creativity of Crestwood Children's Center staff donations paid off at the eighth annual Theme Basket fundraiser. Proceeds allowed Crestwood to fund field trips for the children in day treatment and residential treatment programs and therapeutic supplies for outpatient treatment programs.

  • Crestwood's first ever Valentine's Day Appeal helped to raise awareness of Crestwood services with residents in the area around Crestwood's main location on Scottsville Road. The Foundation ended the year with 700 individuals choosing to donate to Crestwood for the first time.

  • The Foundation also created and launched its inaugural Memorial Day Appeal, allowing donors to give in remembrance of loved ones or simply for the future of Crestwood's children.

  • Crestwood Children's Foundation committed to complete a five-year project of rehabilitation of the six rooms in Crestwood Children's Center psychotherapy and family therapy wing. The play therapy room most recently completed is equipped with state-of-the-art video and audio capabilities.

  • Funds raised by the Foundation supported a number of capital-improvement projects for Crestwood. Among them are carpet replacement, HVAC equipment, hot water system replacement, computer upgrades, equipment for school programs, and landscaping. The Residential Treatment Center received new exterior windows and bathroom stall upgrades.
