The Edna McConnell Clark
Foundation—a foundation dedicated to helping organizations across the
country help young people to realize their potential—granted $1 million
to Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection as part of a four-year, $30.9
million business plan to double the number of youth served by HW-SC in
Rochester, Syracuse and beyond. Other foundations, businesses and
individuals have seen HW-SC’s success in improving graduation rates in
these cities and contributed an additional $611,000 to support HW-SC.
Innovation
-
People throughout the
community have a vision for the good they hope to achieve by holding
fund raising events on behalf of Hillside’s affiliates. This year, 48
organizations, groups, and individuals raised almost $79,000 to support
Crestwood Children’s Center, Hillside Children’s Center, and Hillside
Special Santas.
-
Danny and Stency Wegman helped
realize the vision for over 160 youth in Rochester by hosting the most
successful Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection gala yet, raising over
$202,000 that, when matched on a 2-to-1 basis with New York State
funding through Monroe County, ensures these youth get the services they
need to stay in school and graduate with skills that will prepare them
for post-secondary education and work.

families with very young children provided over $86,000 to support

The future of 1200 7th
to 12th graders in the city of Rochester - more than ever before- will be

Over 2800 individuals
helped to create tomorrow's stories for the children and families served by
Hillside's affiliates by supporting annual appeals and participating in
special events hosted by the Foundations. Proving that that every gift makes
a difference to what Hillside can accomplish, these believers provided over
$603,000 to support, among other things, the programs of Adoption Resource
Network at Hillside Children's Center, sending our children to Hillside's
Camp Possibilities, and addressing short-term basic emergency needs to help
keep children and families together.
-
Donors often find a
particular story compelling- they respond to the need children have to
express themselves through artistic pursuits, or demonstrate their abilities
and build confidence through athletic activities, or to rewrite their own
stories by participating in community service and youth court programs. These
stories were among the many that compelled individuals and foundations to
make grants totaling almost $335,000 to support specific projects and
programs throughout Hillside.
-
1390 donors of items
ranging from gently used toys and books, to handmade mittens, quilts, and
throws, to school supplies and holiday gifts, to priceless auction items,

children and families
