Volunteer Mentors
Our greatest need with the biggest reward
Hillside is currently seeking individuals to become 1:1 volunteer mentors. These individuals act as a positive role model, friend and mentor for youth in Hillside’s care. Volunteer mentors meet with a youth weekly or bi-weekly as schedules allow, for 1-2 hours. Individuals in this role are a valuable resource to Hillside and the youth they are working with!
All volunteer mentors are asked to complete a background check, fingerprints and a PPD Skin Test at no cost to them and must be at least 19 years of age or older. Individuals will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator within 3 business days of receiving their inquiry.
Please title subject line of e-mail “Volunteer Mentor” for this opportunity!
We are really trying to increase our number of Volunteer Mentors as we currently have 20 youth waiting and more referrals coming in daily!
Adoptment Volunteers
Adoptment is a mentoring program of Adoption Resource Network at Hillside Children’s Center. The Adoptment mission is to provide adopted young people and/or young people in transition from foster care into adoptive homes, the regular company of an adult mentor (who was adopted and/or spent time in foster care) to express themselves, be heard and ask questions while engaging in activities both fun and educational.
The youth and adults meet as a group and individually. Training and support are provided.
Adoptment is the only program of its kind in the greater Rochester area. It provides a safe, fun atmosphere that allows the adult mentors and the teens to discuss feelings about adoption and build healthy lasting relationships.
“The mentors’ personal experience with adoption helps to normalize the experiences and attitudes of the teens and often facilitates a change in attitude toward adoption,” says Lisa Maynard, Executive Director of Adoption Resource Network at Hillside Children’s Center.
An informational meeting will be held for anyone considering volunteering.
Wednesday, June 16, 6:00-7:30 PM
at 100 Metro Park, Suite 102, Rochester, NY
Please RSVP. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, know someone who may benefit, or would like more information please contact: Melissa Maybee - 585.350.2526
