Hillside Family of Agencies' Draheim earns Professional TCI Certification

One of 42 internationally to obtain Professional TCI Certification
Hillside Family of Agencies' Learning Institute Learning Coach Kim Draheim has successfully completed the Professional Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Certification program through the Residential Child Care Project (RCCP) at Cornell University.

He is one of 42 people internationally that hold this high level certification for training the crisis prevention and intervention model for residential child care facilities.

"It's great. I think that when you become a TCI instructor, professional certification is the goal," says Draheim.

The Professional TCI Certification allows Draheim to provide direct training within Hillside, and fee for service training that Hillside sponsors outside the organization.

"As Hillside's Learning Institute strives to become more of a resource to the community, we benefit by our ability to train staff from other organizations in the non-physical skills of crisis prevention and de- escalation. More and more, school districts seek out Hillside to provide this training to their staff. Kim's Professional TCI Certification allows us to better meet the needs of school districts and other agencies," says Jerry Callan, Director of Hillside Family of Agencies' Learning Institute.

To obtain the professional certification, Draheim, who has been a TCI instructor for five years, was required to provide to RCCP for review documentation and video evidence supporting his ability to train the TCI curriculum.

"It is quite a review process they put you through," says Draheim.

The Residential Child Care Project, established in 1982, is an international outreach, technical assistance, and training organization that is part of the Family Life Development Center located in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University.
