'The Bridge to a Future - Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection'
to air June 25 and 29 on WROC News 8 Now

Although it is widely accepted that the future of any community relies on the successful education of its children, it is also no secret that Rochester has for decades struggled with how to increase the number of high school students realizing the dream of graduation. At issue has been an inability to bridge the gap to a promising future created by the life challenges that many Rochester City School District students face.

"Today’s Family: The Bridge to a Future–Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection," a television special premiering June 25 on WROC News 8 Now at 8:00 p.m., with a rebroadcast on June 29 at 9:00 p.m., will explore how Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection is turning around Rochester’s graduation rates through an innovative and unique program that helps students achieve a promising future for themselves through the goal of graduation. The broadcast is co-produced by Hillside Family of Agencies and WROC News 8 Now.

Hosted by WROC News 8 Now anchors Kevin Doran and Maureen McGuire, the show features the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection story as told by the program’s participating students, youth advocates, and community partners. Viewers will be provided a detailed examination of how financial, social, economic, and other contributing factors brought about the need for a program that offers support and opportunities to our area’s youth, in addition to how the success of the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection model is being used to increase graduation rates nationwide.

"The Bridge to a Future–Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection" is the eighth program in the award-winning "Today's Family" series, developed to increase awareness and understanding about critical issues affecting New York’s families. Past shows dealt with teen suicide, domestic abuse, youth substance abuse, stress, sexuality among today’s youth, childhood obesity, and the issues and challenges facing the “new age” family units that exist today.

Hillside Family of Agencies, a nonprofit organization comprised of affiliates Crestwood Children’s Center, Crestwood Children’s Foundation, Hillside Children’s Center, Hillside Children’s Foundation, Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, and Snell Farm Children’s Center, provides child welfare, mental health, youth development, juvenile justice, special education, and developmental disabilities services to children and families across Central and Western New York.
