Adoption Resource Network (ARN) at Hillside Children’s Center is now helping adoptive families in Western New York overcome the challenges they face as their children grow and develop through the implementation of the new Adoption Support and Preservation (ASAP) service.
ASAP, funded by a $275,000 grant from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, offers post-adoption services in Monroe, Erie, and Niagara Counties as a means to assist adoptive families in coping with their children’s adjustment issues, identity crises, and behavioral problems that can threaten to tear the family apart.
ASAP provides adoptive families with challenges services that include information and referral to adoption competent professionals; “Just in Time” crisis intervention; advocacy; counseling; support groups for parents and youth; skill building; parent education; and “Breathing Space” respite. All of the services are coordinated by parent liaisons, which are adoptive parents who have faced similar challenges themselves.
ASAP offers these services free to families meeting TANF eligibility requirements. Adoptive families in Monroe County interested in ASAP services are asked to call (585) 256-7967. Erie County and Niagara County adoptive families can access ASAP services by calling (716) 848-6402.
Hillside Children’s Center is an affiliate of Hillside Family of Agencies, a family and children services organization that provides child welfare, mental health, youth development, juvenile justice, special education, and developmental disabilities services across central and western New York. Hillside Family of Agencies is also comprised of affiliates Crestwood Children’s Center, Crestwood Children’s Foundation, Hillside Children’s Foundation, Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, and Snell Farm Children’s Center.
