Snell Farm Children’s Center (SFCC), an affiliate of Hillside Family of Agencies, held a reception on Wednesday, October 13 to announce Karen Sylvester’s recent appointment to the position of SFCC executive director. She has been interim executive director since April 2004.
Sylvester joined Hillside Family of Agencies (HFA) when she took a position as a family social worker at Hillside Children’s Center (HCC) in 1980. Since then, she has held a variety of roles including social worker and vice president of day treatment programs. Immediately prior to her role at SFCC, she served as HCC Western Region service leader.
As executive director, Karen joins the leaders of the HFA service affiliates Crestwood Children’s Center, Hillside Children’s Center, and Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection in reporting to the HFA chief of services.
“Karen brings impressive children’s mental health credentials and proven leadership skills to the responsibilities of executive director,” says HFA President and CEO Dennis Richardson. “She has worked effectively with SFCC children, families, staff, and board members to transition this affiliate into the Hillside Family of Agencies system of care model.”
Sylvester earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from St. Bonaventure University in May of 1977. She graduated with a Master of Social Work degree in May of 1980 from Syracuse University.
Located eight miles north of Bath, New York, Snell Farm Children’s Center provides specialized residential treatment for adolescent boys who have sexually abusive behavior.
Hillside Family of Agencies is a family and children services organization providing child welfare, mental health, youth development, developmental disabilities, juvenile justice, and special education services across Central and Western New York.
