'Today's Family: Stressed for Success' to air June 10 on WROC-TV Channel 8

Stress -- we all suffer from it. Whether induced by our jobs, family responsibilities, financial woes, illnesses, or simply our over-the-top busy lifestyles, too much stress is unpleasant and even health-threatening.

A television program premiering June 10 on WROC TV Channel 8 will explore what stress means today, what's causing it in local families, and what some people are doing to de-stress their lives and focus their energy - and their attitudes - on what really matters to them.

"Stress is a great challenge as a problem because it is largely invisible and needs time and effort to heal, " said Dennis Richardson, president and CEO of Hillside Family of Agencies. "At Hillside, we know that the feelings of angst, helplessness, and even hopelessness that stress causes are just as serious and real as physical ailments."

"Stressed for Success," co-produced by Hillside Family of Agencies and WROC News 8 Now and sponsored by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Rochester Region, will air Tuesday, June 10 from 8 to 9 p.m. on WROC TV Channel 8.

Hosted by News 8 Now anchors Kevin Doran and Maureen McGuire, the program will feature interviews with local experts on the leading causes of, and solutions for, stress at home and in the workplace. Through the stories of Rochester-area students and families from a variety of backgrounds, the program also will provide real solutions for families who are feeling overwhelmed with stress and need help.

An on-line chat hosted at www.hillside.com will begin at 9 p.m. on June 10, immediately following the broadcast. The chat will allow viewers to engage in a dialogue with program guests and experts and offer questions and concerns directly. Panelists for the chat will include a psychologist and an expert on career transitions.

"Stressed for Success" is the fourth program in the award-winning "Today's Family" series, developed to increase awareness and understanding about critical issues affecting New York State families. The first three shows dealt with teen suicide, domestic abuse, and youth substance abuse.

Hillside Family of Agencies provides youth development, mental health, child welfare, juvenile justice, developmental disabilities, and special education services to children and families throughout Western and Central New York.
