I have found that I do not have as many opportunities as I would like to meet with our staff, youngsters and families. This, combined with an increase in the size and scope of our agency, has caused me to want to find new ways to reach out within Hillside, and to hear the diverse perspectives of many of our staff. In addition, as we grow, I want to prevent us from becoming overly bureaucratic. In order to do so, I think we need to pay attention to the underlying values of Hillside and the relationships that tie us together.

This blog is one more tool to help us build relationships and remind one another of why we have chosen Hillside as the place to build our careers. Through the blog I can imagine us having electronic conversations among staff who might live 200 miles apart from one another. It will allow me to learn from you and hear about issues and concerns that might otherwise escape me. It will be another method for us to fortify our commitment to excellence. It creates another opportunity for dialogue.

I promise that, as in all matters, I will speak honestly with you and I expect the same from you. This does not mean I can always tell you everything that is taking place at any given time. Issues of confidentiality and privacy preclude me from doing so. Yet, I will always be truthful and I assume you will understand when I cannot be as forthcoming as you may like me to be.

I greatly enjoy my interactions and personal conversations with you. It will be intriguing to try this new method of electronic conversation. I hope you will join with me as we start this journal together.
