Why join HFA Corporate Challenge Team?
So - why join the Hillside Family of Agencies Corporate Challenge Team? It will give you a walking or running goal to shoot for. I regularly have to give myself a good talking to to get out and run regularly. It is easy to think of lots of excuses (too cold, too hot, too tired, too busy, forgot to wash my clothes), but imagining yourself with a group of colleagues at the start of the run or walk can help fuel you to get out and take care of your body. Of course, sometimes I respond too well to my motivational techniques and wind up injuring myself. In fact, it has become an annual event that something happens to me just in time for the Corporate Challenge. This year, I injured myself early, so I should be fine by the end of May. Last year, I had no injury - I was just slow. But - there were so many people there, none of the Hillside group knew how slow I was. All I had to do was hang out with nice people who I did not know well before, have a good time with them, then vanish into the crowds of the race. After the race, no one asked about time - we were all just happy to be eating and sharing mainly non-work stories with each other. This year, we hope to have lots more staff joining us for a lot of fun while we build the Hillside spirit! I hope to hear from many of you about how you try to keep (or get) yourselves healthy, and I look forward to seeing you at the Corporate Challenge (as long as you ignore my running time). - Clyde Comstock TrackBack

Thanks for the encouraging blog entry, Clyde. As many people know, I'm a devotee of the Corporate Challenge, myself...and quite an annoying cheerleader. However, I have done the Corporate Challenge three years past and loved every one! It's not about your time, your form, how trained you are, or anything else. It's just about the comaraderie of coming together as a bunch of Hillside staff to enjoy an evening doing something social and fun! I love meeting new faces - getting to know our family at large. How often do we actually get to meet people from all around the agency? How often do we really step out of the buildings or programs where we work and spend time getting to really know the other members of our extended family? And I mean as people, not just colleagues. I hope there will be a great turnout this year. Unfortunately, for the first time in quite a while, I won't be running it - it's six days before my first child is due. But, as long as I can, I will at least be there cheering you all on. I'm looking forward to yet another chance to connect with old friends and make some new ones! I can't wait!
