2012 marks Hillside’s 175th year of believing in youth and families. The pages of our history are rich with a great legacy of pragmatic idealism and a strong commitment to social justice. Yet, even as we look back with pride on so many years of innovation and service, we remain firm in our commitment to being a greater community resource tomorrow than we are today.
“Our history demonstrates that Hillside is not here for the short term,” Chief Operations Officer Clyde Comstock said in a recent Hillside Family Forum podcast taping. “We really have the long view about children and family’s needs… We’ve been here for 175 years. There’s no guarantee we’ll be here for another 175 years unless we learn as well as our predecessors did. We have to understand what the needs of our communities are… We have to understand better ways of serving our communities and we actually have to lead the change where we see it necessary.”
